Overview

Research Water 0.9% Benzyl Alcohol is a clear, colorless, non-pyrogenic solution of benzyl alcohol (0.9% w/v) in purified water, USP. Benzyl alcohol functions as an antimicrobial preservative, allowing repeated withdrawals from a single vial over the course of a study. It is supplied in a 10 mL multiple-withdrawal glass vial with a rubber stopper and aluminum crimp seal.

This solution is used as a general aqueous solvent and diluent for lyophilized peptides and other research compounds that require dissolution prior to in-vitro laboratory analysis.

Composition

Benzyl alcohol 0.9% w/v (9 mg per mL). Purified water, USP, q.s. Contains no other additives.

Form and storage

Aqueous solution. Store at controlled room temperature, 20 to 25°C. Do not freeze. Protect from light. Once the stopper has been punctured, use within 28 days and keep the vial closed between withdrawals.

Handling

Use aseptic technique when withdrawing from the vial. Wipe the stopper with 70% isopropyl alcohol before each withdrawal and use a new sterile needle and syringe each time. Discard if the solution becomes cloudy, discolored, or contains particulates. Benzyl alcohol is incompatible with some compounds; confirm solvent compatibility for your specific application.
